About the Tropical Butterfly House:

The Tropical Butterfly House is a family-run zoo home to over 142 species, from marvellous minibeasts and mammals to free-flying birds and tropical butterflies, celebrating its 30th anniversary year in 2024.

In 2023, a new Butterfly House was built to create an accessible energy-efficient and ecologically friendly environment to house butterflies and tropical plants with the support of the RDPE Growth Development Fund. The final phase of the project will see a Bug House opening in 2025.

As well as providing fundraising support to a number of charities that help the survival of wildlife species around the world, preserving native species on a more local level is something very close to the company’s origins and heart.

The Tropical Butterfly House owns 46.5 acres of land purely to conserve British wildlife, with 3 sites in Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire dedicated to improving habitats for a wide variety of native species. A percentage of the admission price visitors pay to visit the centre goes into the management and upkeep of this land and makes purchasing wildflower seeds and bird boxes possible. There are over 450 bird boxes across the sites attracting a variety of native birds including one of the largest populations of tree sparrows in the UK. Large herds of red deer, barn owls, grass snakes and an abundance of native butterflies have also been recorded.

Camelot Playpark, Dino Trail, Jungle Gift Shop, Butterfly Café and Lotties Coffee Lounge are also located onsite at the Tropical Butterfly House.

The Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife Conservation Park is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA). BIAZA represents its member collections and promotes the values of good zoos and aquariums.  https://biaza.org.uk/
